Ethics of nursing informatics
The artricle is about the ethical issues of nursing informations. I was intersted in the ethical issues of the EMR. The EMR is a very useful tool for the medical community. However, there area ethical problems with who can access the patients chart. Anyone with a password can retrieve a particular chart. This means an employee can look up a friends or family members record without their consent. There needs to be safeguards in protecting patient information.

I agree with having access to patient records. This also would create a public trust issue. Could just anyone have access? This could damage potential for employment as well as insurance coverage. TSP
I believe there is a high moral and ethically obligation in a nurse and patient relationship. In actuality, electronic health care record can monitor the trail of charts being accessed more effectively than a paper chart. If no one is watching, who knows what privacy issues were breached, but in an electronic health care record there is always a trail of electronic signature to follow. M. H.
I believe that when software packages are designed and password and access are granted there should be a mechanism in place to limit or reduce the amount of abuses. I know at my job, I have access to information that the staff nurses don't...
With electronic medical records, individual patients can have access to their charts also. As nursing informatics stated, yes it is easier to identify viewers who have no business it someone's chart. Every entry has a time stamp with the users name. This has slowed some individuals who are accessing high profile patients, but have also got some released from their job because of the HIPPA violation.
